The Valley, at Moonee Ponds, Victoria, carries the shortest home straight of any major course in the country — a track built tight and compact rather than sprawling, which is precisely why it suits the one race everyone knows it for. The Cox Plate is run there each October and is the reason the course has a national profile far beyond its size.
