The Sapphire Coast track at Kalaru, between Bega and Merimbula on the New South Wales far south coast, was purpose-built in the nineteen-nineties to replace the older Bega course. It is a big, wide circuit with banked turns and a long home straight — an unusually generous shape for country racing, and one that gives a horse room to make up ground late.

Our records hold 85 races here, with fields averaging 8.6 runners and 1200 metres the most commonly programmed trip. Barbara Joseph, Paul & Matt Jones leads the stables with 17 wins from 79 runners, and Sablonneuse has won 2 of 2 starts.
