Kununurra is the only turfed racecourse in the state north of Geraldton, set beside Lake Kununurra at the foot of the Kimberley's Carlton Ridge — some racegoers reach the meeting by boat rather than by road. The setting is often called the most beautiful of any course in the country, the water on one side and ancient rock glowing orange at sunset on the other.
