Kilcoy, inside the local showground north-west of Brisbane, has one of the shortest home straights in the country — barely more than a furlong on a tight circular track. Nothing here rewards a closer: a horse not on terms turning for home rarely gets there. The Kilcoy Cup in June is the club's one meeting most people outside the district would recognise.
