Emerald, at Pioneer Park in central Queensland's highlands, holds the only turf circuit inland in that part of the state — everything comparable nearby is further towards the coast. The course has sweeping turns rather than tight ones, and a handful of meetings a year is enough to make it the district's main sporting fixture.
