About this course

Country · Dirt · 2000m circumference · clockwise

Birdsville stages what is billed as the most remote thoroughbred race meeting in the world — a claypan track beside the sand dunes of the Simpson Desert, three kilometres from a town whose population swells from about a hundred to several thousand for the two days each September. The longest race starts in the back straight itself. It is run to raise money for the Royal Flying Doctor Service, and the meeting brings more tourism money to the outback than almost anything else on the calendar.

It is Dirt, run clockwise in QLD. Our database holds 26 of its races, where fields have averaged 8.5 runners and 1200 metres is the trip it schedules most often. K.D.Healy has 4 wins from 25 runners here, and Forever A Diamond has won 2 of 2 starts.
