Terang, in Victoria's western district, is flat and roomy — a wide loam course, fully irrigated, with a long home straight that gives a horse held up off the pace a genuine chance. Its historic iron grandstand, built late in the nineteenth century after fire took the one before it, runs nearly the length of that straight.
